About
Colleen Dean is an artist based in Los Angeles
Colleen grew up in Dallas, Texas in a house filled with portrait artworks painted by her mother’s great aunt. She began drawing in middle school but ended up following an acting passion for several years, attending the University of North Texas and on to the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City..
Ultimately, she gravitated back to the quiet, solo work of drawing and painting. Colleen returned to Texas to attend university and pursue her BFA in Drawing and Painting. Colleen is now based in LA and when not behind the easel is working with her husband on an award winning comedic web video series.
Universal throughout Colleen’s acting and painting is her love of human nature and storytelling. Inspired by nature, fashion, and music, she reinterprets her favorite photographers iconic images that created the memories and narratives of her youth. Dramatic, provocative images fill her studio and canvases. Some of the photographers she references in her drawings and paintings include: Anton Corbijn, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Helmet Newton.
